P*anty Checker

I probably run to the bathroom 12+ times a day with the sole purpose of checking my underwear. So far, still white. This is so nerve-racking! I am praying for morning sickness! I know, I know. I may come to regret that, but I hate feeling so normal. It freaks me out.

I am 4 weeks and 4 days today. My bre*asts are sore, but not as sore as they were - that makes me nervous! I'm a bit gassy and I have fatigue. That is pretty much it. What I wouldn't give to throw up. Someone tell me this is normal and doesn't mean anything scary.

Also, for those of you who have "been there, done that", what should I expect at my first doc visit? I received a TON of paperwork in the mail that I have been filling out and the letter they sent me said to expect my appointment to last up to 2 hours. Wow. What in the world will they be doing?

I am so grateful to be pregnant (I feel like a fraud typing that), but I just don't know what to do with myself. I wish I could just know that everything is going to be alright. I really want to think that pregnancy will equal baby. Could I really have a baby this Labor Day? Please God, please.

I remember all those feelings you are having! There are a ton of questions and concerns, I know. For me, I only experienced breast tenderness and slight bloating. The morning sickness didn't come until later (sorry but can't remember when exactly). I'm sure you will be throwing up like the rest of us soon.

As for the first dr.'s visit - I don't think I'll be much help because I was a unique IF case, and I had more than the usual visits. I saw the dr. 2 wks after the IUI and shortly after that too. Plus, it was almost 4 yrs ago. I'm pretty sure they'll check your beta and give you some pamphlets to read about pregnancy. I can't remember if you'll get an ultrasound or not at the first visit. I hope someone else will be more help.

I'll continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. And I can't wait to hear all about your first dr.'s visit! I know you are filled with lots of different emotions right now and it's quite normal.

Never done a normal first appointment since all of mine have been IF pregnancies. More than likely, they will send you to a lab for blood work (at least 5 vials if I remember right!), check your last AF date, and do the blood pressure weight check thing you will get every single time. My first couple of visits they had me do some family health history things and told me what to expect from the practice for the pregnancy. I got a ton of samples, magazines, and an ultrasound. Oh, they may or may not do a pap smear on you as well. Be prepared for pain with that one! Ugh!

My morning sickness didn't kick in until 7-8 weeks along. Mostly bloating and some breast tenderness were my early symptoms. Even those would come and go though so just keep peeing on those sticks! :)

Don't worry, darlin! I felt totally, absolutely, frustratingly normal, too! I never threw up even once! The most that happened during my first trimester was some slight nausea that disappeared once I scarfed a snack. But, even this didn't start happening until late in my first trimester. The boob soreness was another symptom I had and that was pretty noticeable, so I clung to that as my happy reminder.

At my first appointment, I talked a lot with the nurse first. She just went through all the stuff you probably already know about taking good care of yourself during pregnancy. Then, the doctor came in and talked with us for awhile about the way the practice runs, answered all of our nervous questions, etc. Then, she did an internal exam to make sure all was well with the girly parts. It does take awhile, but I was so happy that they were taking that time with us. It made me feel so much more relaxed about the whole thing, and gave me a chance to get to know my doc.

Don't worry that morning sickness hasn't kicked in yet... you still have plenty of time! I don't think it really hit me until about 6 weeks if I remember correctly.

Morning sickness never kicked in for me until about 6-7 weeks. Even then, I wasn't sick - just constant slight nausea.

As for the first appointment, I peed in a cup, had my blood pressure taken, stepped on the scale, had a pap, filled out history forms etc. with the doctor, had a brief discussion of what I should/should not be eating/taking, and left with a lab requisition for blood work. All in all about 45 minutes, plus time at the lab. At my clinic/hospital you only get one ultrasound at 18 weeks so that wasn't part of the appointment.

I really don't have a ton to say about the first appt. My midwife pretty much just went over the schedule of things to come, went over all that paperwork, talked about all the test options for the pregnancy and that's about it. She also tried to hear the heartbeat, which worked with Aiden but not with Livi. I can't wait to hear all about your first visit!
